The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced a 40-billion-euro ($46.4 billion) investment in Germany, with data center infrastructure as a central focus. The plan includes 1 gigawatt of new data center capacity and 10 billion euros earmarked for Bavaria, a key industrial and tech hub. The investment, announced during UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s state visit to Germany, aims to deepen economic ties and bolster Germany’s digital and industrial sectors amid its economic challenges.
The UAE’s investment package spans artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure, and energy, with a specific emphasis on expanding data center capacity to support Germany’s digital transformation. The deal includes a declaration of intent to establish a German-UAE investment council to strengthen public- and private-sector collaboration. Existing UAE investments in Germany, totaling 34 billion euros, already span chemicals and renewable energy sectors.
Bilateral non-oil trade between the UAE and Germany reached $15.5 billion in 2025, underscoring the strategic importance of the partnership. UAE Minister of Foreign Trade Thani Al Zeyoudi highlighted the country’s goal to connect its economy with global hubs, while Georgetown University’s Paul Musgrave noted the UAE’s broader strategy to diversify its economy beyond oil and enhance its influence in Europe’s strategic sectors.
The investment aligns with Germany’s need to upgrade its digital infrastructure and compete globally in tech innovation. The 1 gigawatt data center capacity could accelerate cloud computing and AI development, while Bavaria’s 10 billion euro allocation targets its industrial and tech clusters. The UAE’s focus on data centers reflects its growing role in global digital infrastructure, positioning Germany as a key partner in the shift toward cloud-based economies.
The UAE’s $46.4 billion investment in Germany underscores its economic diversification goals and Germany’s push for digital infrastructure. While the deal strengthens bilateral ties, its success depends on regulatory approvals and sustained demand for the planned projects, highlighting the interplay between strategic partnerships and market execution.
