Rentomojo’s Rs 1,255.57 crore IPO listed on Thursday with shares opening at a 19% premium over the Rs 404 issue price, delivering extraordinary returns to early investors. Nazara Technologies founder Nitish Mittersain, whose investment in the rental platform is projected to yield a 152.45X return, stands out among the 152X return for early backers, highlighting strong market confidence in the company’s growth potential.
Rentomojo’s stock market debut marked a landmark moment for its early backers, with shares opening at Rs 482.45 on the NSE and Rs 480 on the BSE, a 19% premium over the IPO price of Rs 404. The Rs 1,255.57 crore offering, split between a Rs 150 crore fresh issue and Rs 1,105.57 crore offer-for-sale (OFS) component, saw institutional investors like Accel India and Madison India unlock 8.63X and 7.22X returns respectively on their OFS stakes.
Nitish Mittersain, holding 226,920 shares acquired at an average cost of Rs 2.65 per share, is set to realize a 152.45X return on his Rs 3.93 lakh acquisition cost if shares are sold at the upper price band of Rs 404. His 148,460 shares being sold through the IPO could generate approximately Rs 6 crore in proceeds. Similarly, Rajeev Chitrabhanu, Rentomojo’s first investor, is projected to achieve 26.6X returns on his Rs 12.4 crore OFS stake.
The IPO’s success underscores Rentomojo’s market validation as a leading rental platform in India, with its digital-first model attracting significant institutional interest. Founders and early investors, including Geetansh Bamania, who plans to offload Rs 34.3 crore worth of shares, benefit from the listing’s strong debut. However, the absence of detailed financial metrics like revenue or EBITDA limits immediate assessment of the company’s operational sustainability.
Rentomojo’s IPO delivered unprecedented returns for early investors, signaling robust market confidence in its growth trajectory. However, the lack of long-term financial data introduces uncertainty about the company’s operational resilience as it transitions to a publicly traded entity.
